Google to Invest $15 Billion in India for Major AI and Data Center Hub

In a landmark move that underscores India’s growing importance in the global technology landscape, Google announced plans to invest $15 billion to build a massive artificial intelligence (AI) and data center hub in southern India.

The project will be based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and represents Google’s largest AI investment outside the United States.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian revealed the details during an event on Tuesday, stating that the investment will unfold over the next five years.

The initiative aims to expand Google’s cloud infrastructure and support the country’s rapidly growing digital economy.

The announcement follows comments from Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, who confirmed the development of a 1-gigawatt data center campus worth an estimated $10 billion.

Lokesh noted on social media that the deal came after “a year of intense discussions and relentless effort,” calling it “just the beginning” of a long-term partnership with Google.

According to reports by the Economic Times, Google’s Indian subsidiary Raiden Infotech will oversee the development, which includes three campuses across the city.

State officials have indicated that this is part of a broader strategy to boost computing capacity and attract global tech investments to Andhra Pradesh.

This move comes as tech giants race to scale up infrastructure for AI and cloud computing, which require vast data processing capabilities.

Google’s decision aligns with its global trend of increasing capital spending, which rose to $85 billion in its 2025 forecast due to surging cloud demand.

India has recently emerged as a strategic destination for such investments, with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Meta also expanding their AI and data center footprints.

The new Google AI hub could make India a key player in global digital infrastructure and help accelerate its transformation into a major technology powerhouse.
